Dear Country Boy,
You probably think this is a letter to bash you for breaking my heart and placing me back in the friend-zone. Truth be told, by friend-zoning me you actually saved me from wasting my time, and for that I am very thankful.
You see, after months of friendship I caught feelings. You were going through an awful breakup. Your ex of however many years left you for your best friend and moved away to another state, a few time zones away. I related because of my breakup with my ex earlier that year. It’s always nice to have someone to talk to when heartbroken.
When our mutual friends got married, I took a chance at the reception, and even after, to discover if there was anything between us. We spent some time together. I even planned a first date that I wish I hadn’t wasted on you. Hey, you live and learn. The holidays rolled in and your ex found her way back to California, and into the picture. I must admit; I hoped that you were smarter. You proved me wrong.
You quickly threw me into the friend-zone and tried working things out with your ex.
Don’t get me wrong. I want to see you happy. And I want to make peace with you. So, thank you for sparing me from you and your lack of self-worth. That must be why you rekindled a relationship with a constant cheater, a woman who you recently walked in on as she messed around with another one of your “friends.” And you still took her back.
Thank you for reminding me that I deserve a man, not an immature boy. Most importantly, thank you for saving me the embarrassment of investing my love and time into a man who doesn’t deserve me. If we had coupled up, your ex would have come back crying. You would have bought her sob story. You would have forgotten all about me.
Best of luck trying to make it work yet again with your ex. I really do hope she makes you happy. Finally, thanks for being my friend, and just my friend. Just the way it should be.
XOXO,
Felisa
