I want to put forth an idea.

Male violence or the tendency for such is the analogue for women’s hypegamy.

First we should think of violence and hypegamy not as exclusively sexual strategies but rather as the survival skills unique to each sex.

For woman hypergamy mitigates against being generally smaller, slower, weaker than men and also for being burdened with having to endure pregnancy, and the care and feeding of small children. Also hypergamy facilitates switching mates which is made necessary because of male violence, and acts as a check against male violence.

Men require violence because most of what men do physically requires overt violent bursts of physically strength. Everything from hunting to hammering is a sort of purposeful violent act. Violence between men establishes hierarchies and codes of conduct. Violence between groups of men serves the purpose of defending property and community, and/or being able to expand holdings of property and community by creating new mating opportunities. Also the possibility of individual violence acts as a check against hypergamy.

The stats on increasing violence on the part of women today seem to track alongside with increasingly open and unrestrained hypergamy. As noted male crime, especially violent crime, is on the decline at the same time. I wonder if there might be a connection.

Elsewhere we’ve discussed the dearth of real masculine men. My question is can a man be a real man, a masculine man, without the credible threat of violence?
